DAV stands for Disabled American Veterans, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the legal rights of veterans and their dependents. DAV offers veterans a variety of services, including benefits assistance, outreach programs and career opportunities. If you're a veteran or the family member of a veteran and you need legal assistance, the DAV can help you find a lawyer or legal representative.

Step 1

Visit the Disabled American Veterans' website. Explore the site to make sure it offers services that are right for you. The DAV can help veterans and their families receive adequate legal representation.

Step 2

Click "Contact Us" in the upper right-hand corner of the page. On this page, you'll find the physical address, phone number and email address for the DAV. Choose which method of contact you're most comfortable with.

Step 3

Call, email or write to the DAV, and explain your specific legal issues. Make sure you give them all the details necessary to help you find adequate legal representation.

Step 4

Follow the DAV's directions carefully. It may help you find a lawyer in your area that it has approved, or it may suggest you obtain the services of an officer with the DAV National Service Office, or NSO. An NSO can help you file claims with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), for example.

Step 5

Use the NSO Locator on the DAV's website to find a DAV National Service Office in your area if that's what the DAV suggests you do. A link to the NSO Locator can be found in the resources section below.
