Many tasks and responsibilities of a guardian require a certified copy of the guardianship order. This certification is sworn to and stamped by a clerk of the court. Each state has different requirements for certified copies.

Contact the court clerk office to determine if the request for certified copies must be made in person or in writing. You'll usually need to talk to someone in the certification, records or probate divisions.

Submit the request, and fee, if required.

Obtain the document at the clerk's office or wait to receive it in the mail. Electronic methods are not usually used as the certification is only valid with a clerk's original signature.

  • In many states, guardianship cases are confidential. Only relevant parties to the action may obtain such orders.
