Chapter 13 bankruptcy is a federal court-supervised debt repayment plan for those who could not pay their bills under the creditors' original terms. Each month, the debtor is required to mail a check or money order to his local bankruptcy trustee, a court representative responsible for overseeing bankruptcy cases and ensuring payment goes as agreed. There are ways to find out how much money has been paid out in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy case without going through old checks and money-order receipts.
Call your local bankruptcy court's automated hot line if your jurisdiction has one. Many courts have an automated system where debtors in Chapter 13 repayment plans can access their information, such as how much has been paid in the case and how much is still owed.
Visit the National Data Center website (see Resources section) "View My Chapter 13 Payments Online." Click the "Get Started Now" button and fill out the requested information to gain access to your Chapter 13 payment history online. You will be asked for information such as your full name, date of birth, Social Security number, and bankruptcy case number. You will then be able to create a login so you can regularly access your Chapter 13 payment information.
Visit your local bankruptcy courthouse if an automated hot line is not available or you do not wish to access your Chapter 13 payment history online. They will be able to provide you a full printout of your applied payments in your bankruptcy case.
