One of the major benefits of having a post office box at your local post office is that you can move as many times as you want and your post office box address stays the same. This saves you from having to fill out change of address cards with all of your financial institutions, memberships and friends. However, if you want to move to another post office box, perhaps to a larger or a smaller box or even to a new post office, you have to rent a new box on the Internet or visit the desired post office in person.
Create an account with the United States Postal Service (USPS) to rent a post office box online – if you don’t already have one. Register by entering your name, address, personal contact information and whether or not your account is a business or personal account.
Sign in to your USPS account. Go to the “Receiving Mail” option on the USPS’ homepage and click “PO Boxes Online.” Click “Go” to rent a box online.
Enter your address or zip code to locate the nearest post office to your home and choose the size box you want to rent and for how long you are interested in renting it. Enter your credit card number to pay for your rental.
Go to the post office where you rented your new box to obtain your keys and begin using your new post office box.
Go to the post office and speak with a postal employee about renting a new box. If you want a new box at the same post office, you can rent a new one and simply not renew your old box when the rental term is up.
Select the size box you want to rent and the length of time you want to rent the box. Provide the postal employee with your payment, which can be cash, check, credit or debit card.
Take your keys and start using your new box.
